If you’re looking for a way to see in the New Year, we have a great night planned at The Bowling Green with DJ Bailey and the bar open ‘til late.
Yup, that’s right – it’s almost here again – that time of year that many of us reflect on the year gone by and make a ‘new year’s resolution’ for the coming twelve months. Some of us try to stick to healthy ‘New Year, New Me’ diets; some of us pack up smoking; some of us try to be nicer, or generally stop any bad habits we might have.
People suck at sticking to New Year’s Resolutions
Unfortunately, although 75% of us stick to our new goals for at least a week, before the first half of next year is out less than half of us will still be on target with our resolutions. This is pretty rubbish, so we thought we would give you some tips on how to keep to your goals.
Don’t choose anything too vague or unspecific
Here are some pretty broadly termed resolutions that we hear people make all the time:
- Eat healthier.
- Do more exercise.
- Learn how to dance.
- Be more productive.
- Drink less alcohol.
- Make more of an effort with a loved one.
The reason that these tend to fail is that they are quite hard to measure. Here is how you can be a bit more specific:
- Only eat chocolate or sugary treats one day a week.
- Switch to whole-meal bread and brown pasta.
- Join the gym and go three times a week.
- Join a dance class.
- Only drink when out or at the pub, don’t drink at home on weekdays.
- Have ‘date night’ once a week with your partner. This could be staying in and watching a film, or going out for a nice meal.
- Visit your parents every week.
Recognise progress and limitations
It’s important to recognise your progress as you work towards your goals. Don’t worry if you face some limitations; be realistic in your expectations of what you can achieve.
The Bowling Green can help!
We also have a great restaurant that serves quality food (including very healthy options) for those times you want to make some extra effort with your family and loved ones.
